Think You Might Need a Ventilation System? Shop With These Goals in Mind

A home ventilation system can help keep the air in your home fresh and healthful. Generally, there are four types of ventilation systems available for homeowners to consider: exhaust, supply, balanced and energy recovery. Ventilation systems help to maintain air quality, especially in newer homes that are built for air tightness. When selecting any ventilation system, you need to keep certain things in mind. Here are four goals you want to meet:

  • Quiet level - You need a system that uses high-quality, low-noise fans. Look for fans that are at 1 sone or less. When you go for a higher quality fan to lower noise levels, you get the benefit of a system that will last for several years longer than a low-quality one.

  • Good controls - When installing a system, the best option is to go with a programmable control that operates the system on low continuously but allows for higher air flow during times of increased activity. If programmable is not an option, go with a control in an out-of-the-way place to prevent turning the system off inadvertently.

  • Air distribution - You want a system that will get the fresh air into all parts of the house. That is a big challenge for some systems. Remote in-line fans that push air into several rooms is the most efficient answer. Testing of air distribution at installation is a must.

  • Filtration - To keep up air quality, all incoming air needs to go through filters. That means sizing the fans to pull air through the filters, even when clogged. It also means installing them where it is easy to check and change the filters.

When you meet these goals, your choice of ventilation system will give you the air quality you want and make living with it easier. If you have any questions about air ventilation systems, contact us here at Air Assurance.
